OUR HOME TURF (2004-2007)
SOME 40 local government areas (LGAs) covering more than 2000 sq km makes up our home turf. The vast region extends south from the CBD shores of Sydney Harbour to the Royal National Park in South Sydney, the Shoalhaven, scenic South Coast, inland to the beautiful NSW Southern Highlands and up to Warragamba Dam, Sydney's Greater West and suburbs south of the Parramatta and Nepean river systems. From 2008, however, our "home turf" will grow to take in much of the state of NSW, in particular the Central Coast, Newcastle, the Hunter Region and Lithgow, Bathurst and Dubbo.
Almost two million people live in the southern part of our state. It is on the verge of becoming a booming economic powerhouse – equivalent to about half the total population of metropolitan Sydney. The region is blessed with vibrant waterways, coastal and historical tourism drawcards, breathtaking natural beauty and endangered natural flora and fauna we must protect and preserve, at such locations as:
