digest

REAGAN'S DIGEST is a column which can be tailormade to your company newsletter or club journal with a multitude of objective (third party) applications and can be professionally written in a light-hearted, chatty or hard news style to cover virtually ANY industry in small business communications. We can also ghost write CEO and Managing Director thought pieces and opinions for trade press and magazines.

It is an innovative, professional third party communications vehicle to promote your club's/company's upcoming events or motivate staff via your own monthly or quarterly online newsletter or as a hard-hitting but compelling, svelte direct mail piece. In 2006 and 2007 for example, we covered history in the often maligned sport of greyhound racing. Our column appeared weekly in the Kogarah-based Greyhound Leader.

Sadly, some months after our column stopped appearing in the Greyhound Leader (replaced with a regularly inaccurate, highly unprofessional two-page "freebie") commercial realities soon set in - as we predicted - and the weekly paper was published for the last time in March, 2008 (almost a year after "Reagan's Digest" last appeared).

In pure B2B applications, we have a healthy sense of humour and a typical example of our Chairman & CEO's on-camera interviewing style can be seen by clicking into the URL link below which takes you to an hilarious satirical explanation of the volatile sub-prime mortgage mess ... and as you belly laugh your way through it, the reality hits you:

Because there is many a true word said in jest (for this is why we humans laugh out loud):

Quickstitch was a grand old stayer and former Victorian courser by Cheers For Akii x Forest Daisy.

He became an Invitation Class stayer around Harold Park (incl. 43.32 and 26.15 efforts) and

created history when breaking the Lithgow 706m track record aged 5 years 2 months

– despite a sprung toe – over 25 years ago (winning the 1982 John Redden Trophy).

There simply aren't enough country stayers going around today to justify heats and a final,

so in keeping with Tiger’s late battling owner-trainer George Costandis “next-best” wishes,

apart from a Golden Oldies, he would have loved to see this race won by a fellow

battler enjoying their first feature race win.

So that’s why the Quickstitch Cup is being conducted for the first time over the shorter

journey of 506 m. Don’t delay. Nominate today!

REAGAN MURPHY WINS
(WENTY) TIPPING COMP

FORMER Greyhound Leader columnist and Assistant Editor Reagan Murphy (pictured above with retired Richmond grass track curator Lennie Herbert) has easily won the media tipping competition conducted on Wentworth Park's Saturday night greyhound racing fixtures since polling first began on December 14, 2006.

Over 130 races, Murphy correctly forecast 47 winners on top for a final standing win rate of 36.15% - well above the standard benchmark of 33% for professional racing media tipsters, with each-way followers of his tips each Saturday night at the Glebe track gaining a further 22 returns (seconds) whilst 18 of his first picks came third. His unplaced selections accounted for just 46 from 130 with his overall pointscore of 317 giving him the championship by 27 points over runner-up, the astute editor of the now defunct Greyhound Leader, JOHN MAHONEY (290 pts).

Mahoney could only muster 44 winners from 130 races (33.84%) with teenager TIMOTHY CAINES finishing an amazing THIRD after miraculously overtaking Jim Poulimenos (271 pts: 37 winners, 25 seconds, 11 thirds from 130 races) with 272 pts from ONLY 110 RACES (34 winners, 25 seconds, 17 thirds).

Enthusiastic wooden spooner TERRY HULM from 2KY can be excused for 'whipping them in' at the tail as he has had his mind on other things, none the least of which has been planning for his recent marriage to the lovely Tara at the Camden Golf Club. He still tipped 29 winners against this Invitation Class field of wily, old judges of city greyhounds from 110 races and his 26.36% rate will improve in time.

The tipping competition is now closed, but if public demand warrants it, there may be another championship staged later in the year. Here now is the final standings and weekly results since polling began on December 14, 2006:
